How I Work

If you haven’t already, I suggest you start on the Who I Work With page to make sure we are both on the same page. Before we both agree to move forward, I think it is important for you to know how I work.

Transparency

As we’re looking to simplify your finances, I don’t think an initial financial plan should take 20 hours to prepare and cost you $10,000 dollars. Why not?

Life changes and so does your plan. The only certainty is that you will have to make adjustments.

Rather than wasting your time and money, I believe your initial financial plan should serve as a snapshot of your overall big picture plan and include recommendations to help start you down the path to your goals.  We both know that your path and goals will change and we’ll adjust your plan as those changes occur.

That’s financial planning done right.

Fees

When preparing your plan, I’m compensated at my hourly rate ($200). While each situation is different, the average plan takes about 6 hours to complete. Once we’ve completed your initial plan, there are two ways we can work together going forward:

Hourly Consulting – If you’d like to be responsible for implementing my recommendations and advice on your own, I’m happy to continue to provide you with advice on your finances as you feel it is needed and will do so at my hourly rate of $200 an hour.

Assets Under Management – If you’d prefer not to “have the meter running” and you have $100,000 or more of investable assets, I’m able to be compensated going forward based on a percentage of the assets I help you oversee.  My annual advisor fee runs between 0.60% and 1.25% based on the amount of assets I help you manage and is deducted directly from your accounts on a quarterly basis. We utilize low-cost, passively-managed portfolios to keep your overall investment expenses as low as possible.

If you’d merely like a second opinion from time to time or only want help with a specific issue, the hourly consulting option might be more your speed.

If you’re looking for a trusted partner to monitor and make suggestions / recommendations relative to your big picture, then the assets under management model might work best.

The choice is yours.

A Team Effort

I’m always happy to speak with and work together with any other advisors (accountant, lawyer, etc) you might have. I’m also happy to provide an introduction to an advisor in my network if you need a referral.

Straight Talk

I will always let you know where you stand and do so in a language we both understand. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I’ll tell you I don’t know, but then I’ll find the answer for you. You are my client and that’s a responsibility I take seriously. I will be open, honest, and act in your best interest at all times.
